General Information

CardKing works with all iPhones and ipods, however, the barcode scanner only works with 3Gs iPhones or newer models.

If you have a 3Gs iPhone and your Card has a barcode, simply place your card in a well lit area with the barcode facing up and press the “Scan Card” button, and view the card through your camera screen.  Do NOT press the “Take a picture” button.  Hold your camera steady and place the barcode in the viewfinder until your hear a “beep”.  The barcode and the number will automatically appear on the “Edit” screen.  Then follow the easy to use instructions in the “Getting Started” section.

Simply and easily enter your membership number found under the barcode on your card and CardKing™ will generate the most likely barcodes.  Compare the barcodes generated by CardKing to the barcode on your Card and select the one that exactly matches your barcode and touch it on the screen.  In the unlikely event that the barcodes generated do not match your Card’s barcode, please contact us and we will correct it.  Easy, fast and simple.  When you are finished, tap “Save” and follow the easy to use instructions.

Carefully inspect the barcodes to make sure they match.  You might think this is difficult, but after you look at a barcode or two, you will see the similarity.  It is not difficult but look carefully.  99% of the time if you scanned the barcode, it will match.  But still check.  If you entered it manually, please inspect slowly and carefully.

If you scanned the barcode and it does not match, which is rare, try scanning it one more time.  If it still does not match, then enter it manually.  But still inspect for a match.  If you are still having a problem, kindly let us know.  We are here to help.

If you manually entered the barcode and the barcodes on the barcode selection screen still do not match, then please make sure you have entered in all the characters found on your card.  If the barcode still does not match, kindly contact us and we will correct the situation.  This is rare, but we can solve the issue quickly.

CardKing™ maintains the most extensive list of merchants and barcode symbologies in the world but there are still a lot of merchants that we have not added – yet!  However, you may add them directly to your iPhone or iPod.  Simply select “Merchant Not on List”, touch the field under “Merchant Name” and the keyboard will pop up.  Enter your new merchant name, tap “DONE”, touch the field under “Category” and the keyboard will pop up.  Select the category from the “wheel” and tap “Save”.  Enter a Custom Title if you wish, and then enter the “Card Number” and tap “Done”.  If you do not have a barcode, tap “Save” and you are finished.  If you have a barcode, tap “Select Barcode” and select the matching barcode. Tap “Save” and you are finished.  Add your merchants, library, college or whatever association or even a Serial Number.

Most handheld, orbital and direct scanners will read your barcode.  Some older ones may not but will be replaced as time goes on so do not give up hope.  Some scanners will read from one inch away and others from 5 inches depending upon the brand and the ambient light.  Remember to follow the SkanTips™ provided.

First remember the SkanTips™ and avoid a dirty screen, glare and make sure your screen brightness is at least medium or higher.  If you do not get a scan, do not worry!  Simply ask the attendant with a smile, to manually enter in your number and you will find them quite happy to do so because they too find this a cool application.  They are becoming more familiar with CardKing™ so they will also know how to hold the scanner to get a better scan.

Flatbed and stationary scanners usually do not read from iPhones or iPods.  We are sorry for this but this is not within our control but we are working with equipment manufacturers to help overcome this objective.  These scanners are quite common in grocery stores but they usually have side scanner or a scanner gun that work much better so simply ask the cashier to use it.

Absolutely YES!  Some scanners are just out of alignment so try a different scanner at the same store.  Some scanner manufacturers make scanners that just will not work – fortunately, they are in the minority and are improving their scanners because they now see iPhones and iPods everywhere and recognize they have to keep up with this technology.  Even merchants are applying pressure on scanner manufactures to get with the program.  So what doesn’t work today may work tomorrow!  We have tested at most major stores and most work and those that did not a couple of months ago are working today.

YES!  Simply press “Edit” on the Home Page and you will see 3 light colored bars appear on the right side of the Home Page.  Place your finger on these bars and while holding your finger there, simply move that Card up or down as you like and press “Done” when finished.  Pretty nifty, huh?

To delete, go to the Home Page and press “Edit” and red circles will appear to the left of your cards.  Tap the circle next to the card you wish to delete and a delete button will appear on the right side.  Tap the “delete” button to confirm.  Then tap “Done” when you are finished.

Absolutely!  CardKing™ uses ScanRight™ for the most successful barcode scanning anywhere with almost all handheld scanner guns, orbital scanners and direct lasers.  This is the latest technology available and when implemented with our new “CamScan™” software, the most accurate barcodes ever can be generated, displayed and scanned.

On the “Edit” screen under “Card Number”, simply tap “None” and you will not see a barcode.  We like to think ahead and therefore generate a barcode in case the Merchant adds a barcode.  A lot of companies are seeing value in barcodes so now you are ready when they are.

Your numbers are your numbers and we do not collect them and they are never sent to us.  We do not know who you are.  We collect technical and usage data about the CardKing app about how and when it is used, but never about you personally.

Why thank you!  Simply email us the name of your association and we will add it immediately.  If the Card has a barcode, please scan both sides so we can clearly read it and email it to us at help@MyCardKing.com.  We do not need your name, just the barcode and the barcode numbers to decode the barcode language.  If you do not have a scanner, email us and we will send you our fax number.  If you have an old membership card that you do not need, please let us know.  We are Card Collectors and have Cards from all over!

Flat bed scanners send a scattered array of omni-directional laser lights with the hope that one of the lasers catches or scans a barcode in their proximity, like a shotgun effect. A number of these lasers are actually out of alignment and that is why you sometimes have problems scanning products.  All of these laser lights tend to reflect and refract on the highly polished, reflective surfaces on iPhones and iPods, creating laser light havoc which in simple terms is known as interference.  Handheld lasers are unidirectional, and therefore you can direct them at a 90 degree angle to the surface, thereby reducing any surface reflectivity.

We knew someone was going to ask this question so here goes.  There are a number of factors that make up scanning and even though barcodes and scanners are commonplace, there is quite a bit of technology behind the scenes.  First there is the equipment which may or may not be sensitive enough or calibrated properly.  Remember, the equipment is banged around constantly.  Second, there are software issues and we can tell you that at a sports club we frequent, there are two identical orbital scanners made by the same manufacturer, connected to the same software program and one orbital scanner works and the other does not.  Go figure?  We will not get into alpha and reflectivity scales here, but what we can tell you is that if there was a way to make CardKing™ work every time and all the time, we would.  We also turned to the world’s expert in laser scanning, yes, there is a person that does this and has many patents in this field though he typically works on robotic vision.  He personally informed us that it can be hit or miss depending upon the ambient light spectrum, software and hardware variables.  If there is a breakthrough we will bring it to you, and we love technology so we have not given up.

According to the latest “laserologists” J reports, your phone is safe and in good hands, yours!  However, do not ever look (including using a mirror) into any laser light with your eyeballs to see if the laser is working.  No, all phones are safe from laser lights.

CardKing is only available for iPhones and iPods.  To download, simply launch iTunes and in the upper right corner where it says “search”, enter “CardKing” one word, not two words and tap enter.  Click on our logo and you are on your way to using a very cool application.

Whenever you sync your iPhone or iPod to your computer, you are making a backup of your data.  You can also subscribe to MobileMe for a small subscription fee as another form of backup.  Backups are extremely important and cost very little as compared to your time and efforts.

“CardKing is more than an app, it is a tool.”  While it can save you a vast amount of time and money by having all your Rewards and Loyalty Cards at hand, it can save you time in other areas as well.  If you store your Car’s VIN or Laptop’s serial number in it, and they are stolen, well, you have the necessary numbers readily at hand to help with the situation.  If you belong to an association and are always looking for your membership number when buying tickets or filling out forms, they can be accessed with OneTouch™ in about as many seconds.  Think about your Automobile, Life or Health Insurance Policy Number.  Students have a lot of numbers to memorize too.  We know you are smart but we can help.

Users ask us about losing their phone along with the Card information and we reply that you can lose your Cards just like you can lose your phone. However, if you want MobileMe to wipe the data from your phone, they can do that.  If you are asking about password protection, no, we do not offer that. Some users simply enter their account numbers under a non descript merchant in CardKing that they never would use.  They also change the number by one number or letter that they can easily remember, such as changing the account beginning/ending in a “3” to a “2” or “4” as an example. CardKing does not have access to your numbers so whatever you enter is strictly yours.
