IMPORTANT SKANTIPS™:
1) Please make sure your iPhone or iPod screen is clean and try avoiding screen protectors.
2) Do NOT use with a flatbed scanner. They rarely work.
3) Hold the phone at a 90 degree angle (perpendicular) to the scanner – not at an angle.
4) Do NOT wave the phone like a loaf of bread – hold it still.
5) Hold the phone steady for one second as close as possible to the scanner and try to scan. If it does not scan, move the phone slowly away from the scanner approximately one inch and try to scan while holding it steady for one second. Keep repeating until you hear the “beep” or the phone gets up to 7 inches away from the scanner. If still no beep, then repeat.
6) Do not worry if the barcode does not scan. CardKing™ provides your (barcode) number so the cashier or attendant can easily enter in your number manually.
7) Hold the phone upright (portrait) and make sure the red laser crosses the barcode image.
8) Use the horizontal (landscape) position when the barcode is too wide to display in the upright position, again making sure the red laser crosses the barcode image.
9) When scanning from a gas station kiosk or a fixed kiosk where you can’t get the iPhone or iPod close enough to the scanner, simply turn the phone upside down to move the barcode even closer to the edge of the screen.
10) If you are at a self service flatbed scanner which is the worst type of scanner for reading barcodes, keep the phone upright (portrait) and steady for about one second and about one inch from the vertical backplate mirror (scanner). If you do not hear a beep, then move the phone another inch away from the scanner while holding it steady for about one second. Repeat until you are about 7 inches away from the backplate. Flatbeds rarely scan iphones / ipods at all, so do not be disappointed if they do not work. Most flatbeds come with a scanner gun attachment, so please use that. Retailers have many different types of scanners, even from store to store, so you will learn which stores are easier to scan than others and how to use the phone. Equipment manufacturers are making their equipment more PhoneFriendly™ so while this might be a common problem now, it will get better as time goes on.
We have scanned our iPods and iphones Thousands of Times with many different merchants. CardKing really does work and we do have some problems with a few merchants, but we have learned who they are and are working with their equipment manufacturers to help them design PhoneFriendly™ equipment. You will learn which merchants can read the barcodes and from what distance. Some read from 3 inches away and some read from 6 inches away. The good thing is that the more merchants we visit, the more familiar they are with scanning phones and now they know exactly how to scan phones. |
